Thursday Movie Picks: Sequels

Howdy, readers! Skipping TMP twice really sucks. Man, I wait for the sci-fi special (even if my films are not...hidden gems or something) and I missed that! Arrgghhh. I wasn't even in Hawaii or Paris with one of my boyfriends in the last two weeks.
.
AAAAAAHHH, I STILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR A YEAR FOR X-MEN: APOCALYPSE!!! THEY EVEN CUT THE HAIR OF MY PRECIOUS BABY (james mcavoy).

Anyway, this week's theme is...*drum roll* sequel! I'm excited, but also annoyed, because I haven't watched Kill Bill 2, Kick-Ass 2, and The Godfather 2. So, I hope my three films are good enough for this week.

Toy Story 2 (John Lasseter, 1999)

This is the only Toy Story film that makes me crazy. The first one is "meh" for me, the third just "good", but the second grabs my heart. I admit that Toy Story 2 is the first film I watch (from the series), so perhaps there's an influence from that area.

I can relate so much from Woody's insecurity and fear. I see Woody as someone who is traditional and family-oriented. He's like one of those family members who's excited and involved in family gathering. He can be annoying, but he's a loyal guy. After all, Woody's world revolved on Andy and the other toys. I understand how the vision of losing them affects Woody so much. I also understand his decision to agree to go to a museum toy.

After all, it would be better to keep Andy on Woody's memory as a friend, not as someone who would throw him away.

Oldboy (Park Chan Wook, 2003)

I never remember Oldboy as my favorite nor a happy film, but it's definitely an awesome film. Some of its scenes are also my favorite ones, too!

Before Midnight (Richard Linklater, 2013)

I prefer Before Sunrise to Midnight. But I prefer Midnight to Sunset. Sunrise just full of passion, romance, and youth. Perhaps, that's why I enjoy Sunrise the most of Before trilogy. About Sunset, I think the film is...the most plain from the trilogy. The longing and bittersweetness never hit me.

I think Midnight is filled with fire and dynamic. But there's a sense of experience and maturity. It keeps the fire from going to overbearing.

Anyway, for those who pressure people to get married, just watch this and Blue Valentine.

  1. Love your first two picks. Oldboy is one of my all-time favorite movies. Even though Toy Story 2 is excellent, it's part 3 that I love the most. Haven't seen any of the Before films, but everyone keeps telling me how great they are. I'll have to give them a chance, at some point.

    1. If you love films that are driven by dialogue, you should watch the trilogy.

  2. The entire Before... trilogy is so special to me. Love Midnight, but not quite as much as the other two - it's the most difficult to watch. In a good way, though - it cuts so deep. You really feel their pain and anger.

  3. Oh my I haven't seen any of these. I'm not a Toy Story fan so I don't think I'll be checking out the sequel. I've only seen the first of the Before films and didn't much care for it but perhaps someday I'll check out the followups. Oldboy I've heard of but haven't seen.

  4. I have only seen Toy Story 2 and not the others. I love the first one and 2nd of Toy Story. I have seen the other Toy Story films but not in its entirety. I mentioned my picks in other people's blogs-"Father's Little Dividend", "Naked Gun 2 1/2" and Star Trek: First Contact". I have been thinking a loooong time in joining this

  5. I've only seen Toy Story 2 on this list, great choice. I've only seen the remake of Oldboy (no idea it was sequel) and I wasn't into it, I'm gearing myself up for the original.

    1. It's an unofficial sequel. The first one and the third one (of Vengeance trilogy) don't have anything to do with Oldboy.

  6. Before Midnight is the one I still haven't seen. I only started those movies this year, and I just haven't gotten to the third part yet. Can't wait though. Toy Story 2 is great. Toy Story 3 is best. Oldboy is pure awesome! Great picks!

  7. All of these are great but I have a special place in my heart for the Toy Story films.

  8. The thing with the Before series is that it is Celine and Jesse's love story over nearly 20 years, they're both a little bit different at each stage. Each movie will probably appeal to you at different stages of your life,
